The pistachio is not very widespread in the Park. Small groups of
pistachios can be found mainly in the vicinity of farm buildings, and serve
to produce fruit for domestic consumption. A group of pistachios, grafted
with different varieties, have been planted, together with varieties of
almond and olive, in the area of the Living Museum of the Almond Tree,
thereby creating a 'living collection' of great scientific and cultural
value, which brings together and preserves rare and fine varieties,
including some that risk extinction, associated with Sicilian non-irrigated
fruit-growing.
