Diodoros Project
Diodoros project was born from the need to enhance the artistic, cultural, landscape and agricultural heritage of the 1300 hectares of the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples. It represents a path through which the Park aims to give value to the species of olive trees, vineyards, pistachios, almond trees and other traditional varieties of Sicilian fruits which are in the Valley; it also aims at protecting biodiversity, by supporting scientific researches and technological innovation, and by promoting the commercialization of its agricultural products, through Diodoros brand which was born and registered in 2005. The brand is a tribute to Diodorus Siculus, a Greek historian from Agyrion (today Agira, in Sicily), author of the Bibliotheca Historica, a work of universal history.

The selection of local companies with a high quality profile and their methodological and production experience made the recreation of traditional quality products and a fully exploitation of the natural resources of the Park possible. The rational and biological use of the areas of its property and the relationship with the private sector are based on the retention of landscape through a traditional recovery methodology, according to the enhancement and restoration guidelines and policies which bind all components of the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples together. The Park therefore becomes a vehicle of culture and awareness for the local population, thanks to the rediscovery of traditional production methods and the involvement of the media, a real future sounding board for Sicilian cultural heritage in the world. From this perspective, Casa Barbadoro – a rural house downstream of the Greek city walls – becomes the reference building where the project begins and is declined through exhibitions and redevelopments of the environment: a building which houses all initiatives undertaken, and a real cultural hub conceived to study, prepare, exhibit and sell not only Diodoros products, but also all cultural excellences of the territory.

Diodoros products recount of a thousand-year history, with the aim of encouraging the tourist flows of the whole Agrigento area and of reaching a wider audience, ranging from archeology lovers to rural and food and wine enthusiasts. This project is therefore about knowledge, cooperation, development, recovery of the landscape and preservation of the traditions that have made this landscape unique: a perfect combination of archeology and nature, a cultural and inclusive experience, a reality to live.
